Summer is one of the most beautiful and fun seasons of the year. At that time, the solar incidence is very large and, with that, the heat increases. Some people have the opportunity to go to the beach or pool to cool off, however, others continue with their work routine in big cities and, in this case, the excess heat can be a hindrance. People can often become tired, irritable, and have trouble sleeping due to the increase in temperature.
To avoid tiredness and discomfort caused by the heat, see our tips on how to endure very hot days:
1. Use and abuse liquids: try to hydrate yourself with lots of water and natural fruit juices, preferably without sugar and ice cream. Coconut water and iced tea are also a good choice. But ATTENTION : avoid soft drinks and very caloric drinks, as they contain a lot of sugar and can make you gain weight.
2. Try to eat light food. Give preference to fruits, vegetables and greens. Abuse of salads, whole grains and white meat, such as poultry, fish and seafood, preferably boiled or grilled. ATTENTION : always check the origin of the fish and seafood, in this heat, they spoil quickly.
3. If you are at work or school, constantly try to wet your face, neck, arms and hands. These regions help exchange temperature with the environment and help cool the body. A good way out is to keep a water sprayer in the fridge to apply constantly.
4. If your car has been out in the sun, open the doors and windows before getting in to let the heat out. Protect the windshields with cardboard and the steering wheel with a cloth.
5. If you are at the beach or by the pool, avoid the peak hours of sunlight, usually between 10am and 3pm. Try to sunbathe before 10 am or after 3 pm. During this period, protect yourself with caps, hats or under an umbrella. ATTENTION : give preference to cotton or canvas tents, which absorb more radiation.
6 . If you work on the street and have no way to shelter from the sun, wear a cap, light clothes and constantly hydrate yourself. Do not forget about sunscreen , which is mandatory before going out in the sun. When you have the opportunity, take cover in the shade.
7. At home, try to keep windows and doors open for ventilation. But beware of insects: use insecticides or screens to prevent their entry.
8. If you’re at the gym, try to do light physical activity with less intensity on very hot days. Stay hydrated and wear light clothing, nothing too tight.
9. Avoid spending a long time with the air conditioner on. It dries out the air and the airways, and can cause irritation of the throat and mucous membranes. Prefer the fan. Always use indirect wind so that the air in the room is completely circulated. Prefer ceiling fans.
10. Try to take several baths a day, with the water temperature not too hot. It is important that a bathroom window is open to prevent the steam from saturating and the environment from becoming stuffy. But ATTENTION : the baths do not need to be time consuming, always think about water rationing.
With these tips your summer will be much more fun and you will have much more energy!
