Canine rose


Medicinal plant rich in  vitamin C , indicated in the treatment and prevention of flu syndrome , and generally used in the form of an infusion (tea). It is also used in powder form to combat arthrosis .

Action on the immune system thanks to vitamin C , anti-inflammatory action (effect of rosehip powder), antioxidant.


Hypovitaminosis C (the plant is rich in vitamin C), against colds (preventive effect thanks to vitamin C).
Rheumatic pain, more particularly against arthrosis  (effect proven by clinical studies) or against  back pain . Gout , kidney stones , stomach pain. As healing and in cases of wrinkles (external use based on rosehip seed oil)

Rosehip-based preparations

– Rosa canina infusion (rosa canina tea) [against colds or hypovitaminosis]


– Rosa canina powder or rose canina capsule [against arthrosis and back pain]

– Rosehip tincture ( Recipe : mix 4 grams of rosehip fruits in 100ml of water and boil for another 20 minutes after boiling) [against colds or hypovitaminosis]

– rosehip syrup

– Jelly (if prepared from the pulp, which is rich in vitamin C)

Where does rosehip grow?

Dog rose can be found in Europe (France, Switzerland, Belgium) quite frequently in the wild. Dog rose also grows in Asia. This shrub usually measures between 1 and 3m. It can be found in Europe, especially along roadsides.
In Europe flowering occurs between May and July. This shrub can live for many years.

When are rosehip fruits harvested?

The fruits of rosa-canina can be harvested in Europe, mainly between the end of August and the beginning of September (Portugal: May to August).


– In Brazil it is also known as wild rose or musket rose. In infusion, rosehip fruits have a very pleasant taste. Thanks to its high vitamin C content , this plant is highly recommended in the coldest seasons of the year to prevent or treat colds and other infections.

– Rosehip tea is not useful in cases of arthrosis, as the active ingredients are destroyed by heat.

– Alternative Bach flower therapy uses this plant (the name is “Wild Rose”).
