12 detox foods

Everyone wants to start the new year with more health and disposition, right? But after the end of the year festivities, always with lots of food and drink, it seems a little difficult to get back to a healthy routine. It is at this time that a balanced diet made up of the right foods helps the body eliminate excesses, toxins and everything bad accumulated during the holidays. See our list of detox foods that will certainly do a lot for your health and get you ready for the new year.

1. Lemon.  Rich in  vitamin C , which helps boost immunity,  lemon  also fights free radicals that damage body cells. In addition, studies indicate that the consumption of lemon, in juice or in salads, delays aging (due to its antioxidant action) and controls anxiety. 

2. Cabbage.  This vegetable is rich in antioxidants and  sulphur , a key mineral for cleaning the body of toxins. Cabbage can be consumed raw, in salads, or sautéed with a little olive oil and onion. 

3. Eggplant.  Eggplant, in addition to being rich in fibers that help intestinal transit, is also a source of caffeic acid, which stimulates the function of bile and the digestion of fats and elimination of toxins. 

4. Green tea.  Green  tea  is rich in antioxidants that eliminate free radicals, and also catechins, which help remove toxins from cells. Its benefits are many, helping to improve cholesterol, delaying aging and even preventing some types of cancer. 

5. Whole Foods.  Rice, bread, whole wheat flour, among others, are excellent allies in detoxifying the body. They are rich in fibers that improve intestinal transit, avoid constipation and still prevent the body from absorbing excess fat and other toxins. 

6. Watermelon.  Rich in water and mineral salts, watermelon is a diuretic, favoring the elimination of impurities through the urine. You can consume it in natura or in the form of juices, mixing it with other ingredients, such as lemongrass and ginger. 

7.  Berries. Foods like  blackberries ,  raspberries ,  strawberries  and  blueberries  are excellent sources of antioxidants and carotenoids, substances that fight free radicals and prevent premature cell aging.

8. Kale .  A champion vegetable in detox diets, kale is high in sulphur-containing compounds (containing sulphur). These compounds increase the body’s ability to eliminate harmful toxins and excesses to the body, preventing cell damage. The natural green dye is a powerful antioxidant. 

9. Broccoli.  Like cabbage, this vegetable contains substances that stimulate the liver to metabolize and eliminate toxins. Also, broccoli is rich in minerals and vitamins. 

10. Garlic.  Garlic  has antiseptic  properties and stimulates the immune system. In addition, garlic is a diuretic, favoring the elimination of impurities through the urine and reducing fluid retention. 

11. Beetroot .  Rich in  iron , beetroot is also a source of pectin that helps cleanse the body of toxins and improve liver function. In this way, impurities, which would be absorbed by the body, are eliminated through urine or feces. 

12. Ginger.  This root is known to activate metabolism, improve intestinal constipation and has appreciable amounts of vitamin C,  calcium , iron,  potassium ,  phosphorus  and  magnesium . In addition,  ginger  is rich in fiber. 

Try to make combinations in your diet that include most of the ingredients. Give preference to fresh, preservative-free foods and don’t forget to drink plenty of water (above 2 liters a day).
