echinacea syrup


Home remedy used as an immunostimulant in the prevention of infections, such as the flu or  colds .


– 30-50 grams of echinacea roots

– 500 mL of water

– 500 grams of sugar


– Boil echinacea roots to prepare a decoction

– Leave to cook for another 10 minutes after boiling

– Let it cool for a few minutes

– Filter

– Add 500 grams of sugar to the previously prepared mixture (decoction), mix and cook until the sugar melts

– Then continue to heat and stir well for ten minutes until the mixture becomes syrupy (you will see “big pearly bubbles”)

– cool down

– Place in sealed bottles, colored (to protect from light), and, if possible, sterilized in a hot water bath

– Make a label

You can easily make a label for your medicine, for example with the name of the preparation, dosage, date, etc. simply by printing the data on a sheet of paper and wetting the back in milk to stick it on the flask.


– Drink 1-2 tablespoons 2 times a day for a few weeks of treatment (maximum 8 weeks) during the winter for the prevention of illnesses (flu, cough, sore throat, etc). If possible, start treatment in early autumn (late March, early April). Ask your pharmacist for more information about custom dosing.

– In case of flu or cold, take 2 tablespoons every 4 hours.

You can also use thyme leaves together with echinacea , instead of using 50 g of echinacea roots , you can use, for example, 10 g of thyme leaves and 40 g of echinacea root But add the thyme immediately before the filtration step (read in Preparation ), that is, before preparing the syrup itself, simply make the thyme tea by boiling it for a maximum of 3 minutes.
