Comments

Plant used to treat productive cough after or during a cold. Interesting natural alternative as this plant softens secretions, making them more liquid, and soothes cramps due to its spasmolytic effect. In an analysis of 77 medicinal plants, the French journal Science & Vie estimated in a July 2020 special issue that ground ivy had proven efficacy in relieving productive coughs. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) recognizes ground ivy as having “well-established medical use” as an expectorant. Ground ivy can also act effectively against acute bronchitis and bronchial asthma. As an expectorant, ground ivy is therefore an effective alternative to acetylcysteine .

Only use ground ivy in ready-made preparations, never make your own remedy as there is a serious risk of toxicity.
