Effects

In a weak dose: expectorant, in a higher dose: emetic (which stimulates vomiting), spasmolytic (in the region of the bronchial muscles), hemostatic, astringent.

Indications

Against productive cough and bronchitis, in case of intoxication, to stimulate vomiting (for example, when there is an overdose of medicine).
Sometimes indicated for anxiety, for example, for introverted people.

Use only ready-made medicines, never make your own medicine.

Secundary effects

In case of overdose: intoxication, diarrhea.

Preparations

– Syrup of ipecac (against cough and bronchitis)

Recipe – Ingredients: 30g tincture of ipecac (mother tincture of ipecac) and 1 liter of simple syrup –
Preparation: heat the syrup, then add the tincture of ipecac and mix, then filter.

– Ipecac lozenges (against cough and bronchitis)

– Emetic syrup (Syrupus emeticus)

– Homeopathic ipecac granules (Ipeca 5 CH, Ipeca 7 CH,…), generally used against nausea and vomiting.

Ipecac grows mainly in South America (Brazil, Peru, etc…). She is originally from Peru.

When to harvest ipecacuanha?

Three-year-old ipecac roots are harvested after flowering.

Ipecacuanha is a plant that is found in the composition of numerous herbal remedies, mainly against cough and bronchitis, its expectorant effect completes the action of the anti-cough remedy and its effectiveness is proven. Ipecac is also found in homeopathic remedies for nausea and vomiting. For dosage, ask a specialist for advice (pharmacist, doctor, homeopath,…). Thanks to its emetic effect, ipecac can be used in case of intoxication with a narcotic, to stimulate vomiting and therefore eliminate the harmful product.

History:
– Ipecac was used in Brazil by indigenous populations before the discovery of the country by Europeans1 . The plant then arrived in Europe thanks to the French physician Le Gras in 1672.
